Like all great things in life, Atlantic City also has rules and regulations. Below is a thorough compilation of rules and regulations about motorcoach transportation in and around Atlantic City. Also, you can find additional information about transportation available to and from Atlantic City such as rail service and the AC Airport.
South Jersey Transportation Authority
The SJTA is the regulatory authority that oversees the Atlantic City Expressway and motor coach activity in Atlantic County. Visit their Bus Management and AC Expressway Rules and Regulation pages for the most current information.
Motorcoach Permit Requirements
All Motorbuses entering Atlantic County are required to have a permit issued by the South Jersey Transportation Authority and are required to follow designated routes in and around Atlantic City. The Authority can be reached during regular business hours at 609-344-4149 or by fax at 609-344-7409.
Motorcoach Operator's Help Line
South Jersey Transportation Authority duty supervisors are on duty seven days a week from 8:30 am to 12 midnight at 609-348-4676 to assist with all questions or emergencies.
Motorcoach Permits & Policies
The Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority is available to guide you quickly and easily through the registration process. Don't worry...just give us a call. We are committed to ensure that the itinerary planning process is as enjoyable as the itinerary itself.
Bus Management Fee
All buses arriving at a South Jersey Transportation Authority approved activity center are required to pay a bus management fee to the Authority in the amount of $2.80. A permit is proof of payment of the bus management fee, and must be displayed in the front windshield of the vehicle. Annual management fee medallions are also available. Although payments can be made at all Authority approved parking facilities and intercept/activity centers, operators are encouraged to purchase permits or medallions in advance (individually or bulk) by contacting:
SJTA Bus Management Office
25 South New York Avenue
Atlantic City, NJ 08401
Phone: (609) 344-4149 or 1-888-5NJ-SJTA
Fax: (609) 344-7409
Loading and Unloading/Parking
After passengers are discharged at an Authority approved site, motorcoach operators must park in a South Jersey Transportation Authority approved bus parking facility. When returning to pick up passengers, motorcoach operators should not arrive more than fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled departure.
South Jersey Transportation Authority Routes
Because Atlantic City is located on a small island and welcomes over 400,000 buses annually, specific routes are detailed for traffic management purposes. Routing information will be sent to you upon payment of the bus management fee.
Variances
In particular cases and for special reasons, the Authority may grant a variance from designated routes, sites for loading and discharging passengers, parking and/or intercept. A minor variance may be granted for a specified date. All applications for a minor variance should be filed at:
Operations Department of the Authority
25 South New York Avenue

Casino Regulations
Prior to confirming a Motorcoach/Tour reservation with a casino, operators must be "registered" with the casino. To register a Motorcoach/Tour, operators must contact the Bus Marketing Department of the casino to receive a registration packet, which is to be completed and returned prior to arrival. Although the registration packet requirements vary from casino to casino, the following are requested by all casino properties:
- $5,000,000 insurance naming said casino as additionally insured
- Copy of ICC Authority
- DOT Authority
- List of officers and owners of the company and those authorized to do business. (Casinos maintain for their files and required Casino Control Commission Filing.)
- List of equipment
Casino Control Commission--Vendor Registration
If you conduct $10,000 or more worth of business with a casino in any 12 month period or if the type of business you conduct is described in the Commission's regulations (N.J.A.C. 19:43-10.4 (b) 1), the casino is required to file a vendor registration form on your behalf. This form, which is not a license application, simply provides the Commission with basic information about your company, its owners, and its principal employees.
